Tucker Construction GroupĀ has secured a landmark contract to design and build a new international terminal at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA)Ā in Lagos, Nigeria. Valued at $2.1 billion, this flagship infrastructure project is one of the largest airport developments in West Africa and will significantly enhance Nigeria’s global connectivity.

Awarded by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), this next-generation terminal will boost the airport’s annual passenger handling capacity from 14 million to 30 million passengers, while introducing sustainable and tech-integrated design features aligned with global aviation standards.

ā€œThis project represents a major milestone in our African operations,ā€Ā said Jason McTavish, Executive VP – Global Aviation Infrastructure, Tucker Construction Group. ā€œWe’re honored to support Nigeria’s growing role as an economic and aviation hub by delivering a smart, sustainable, and future-ready terminal facility.ā€

šŸ›« Project Highlights:

  • Over 120,000 square metersĀ of terminal space

  • 40+ aircraft gates with dual boarding bridges

  • Smart baggage handling systems

  • Renewable energy integration and daylight harvesting

  • Advanced security and customs systems

  • LEED Gold certification target

The terminal will serve as a key international gateway connecting Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and North America, with dedicated space for business lounges, retail zones, and multi-modal transport links including rail and rapid transit.

Construction is set to begin in Q3 2025, with completion scheduled for early 2029. Over 7,500 direct and indirect jobsĀ will be created during the construction and operations phase, contributing significantly to local economic development.

Tucker Construction is also in discussions to support infrastructure upgrades at Abuja, Kano, and Port HarcourtĀ airports as part of Nigeria’s national aviation masterplan.
